What it is

Most systems assume your capacity is stable. Bathys begins with the fact that it is not.

The book offers a compact way to make executive function visible, recognize the condition a person is actually in, and choose actions suited to the capacity that is available. It is not a cure, a demand for permanent optimization, or a claim that one sequence fits every life. It is a system meant to be run under ordinary conditions, including the conditions in which running a system is hardest.

Its governing metaphor is the Kraken. A life may have many active tentacles, each holding a domain, obligation, opening, or burden. The work is not to tame the creature. The work is to coordinate it.

A kraken has no shortage of capability. Its problem is that its capability is distributed. Each tentacle can be strong enough to hold something important. If the center cannot direct those limbs together, strength becomes chaos. Bathys does not try to make the creature smaller. It builds a coordination layer between the finite Head and the powerful limbs already attached to your life.

Where it stands

Bathys: An Adaptive System for Executive Function is the published 2026 revision of the pocket book first released as The Bathys Protocol in 2025. The book is complete. The older Voltage Map language is not part of the current public system.

The inquiry remains open around calibration, personal fit, and usefulness beyond the life from which it was built. Publication does not convert those open questions into universal claims.

The system

The book is organized around four operating layers:

  • Schematic: domains, anchors, tentacles, suction cups, and barnacles make the load visible.
  • Conditions: Crisis Lock, Thrash, and Depths each receive a different response. Creative Opening remains separate and protected.
  • Protocol: compact control logic reduces decisions when decision-making is least available.
  • Operations: a physical interface, a Thirty-Second Protocol, and a daily log move the system into ordinary use.

Breakdown is described as a cascade, not a voltage problem. A cascade has an order, but there is no universal cascade. The example in the book is personal. Each application must attach its tripwires to the user’s own first loss.

Wide companion plate for Bathys: an immense kraken beneath dark water, its tentacles holding ordinary objects from a life while one limb rises toward a narrow opening of light at the surface.

What exists

  • The published revised pocket book
  • A physical interface that can be built with an index card or phone note
  • The Thirty-Second Protocol for identifying, selecting, and moving
  • Condition-specific scripts and a lightweight daily log

What it yielded

  • Variable capacity should be designed for rather than treated as a moral failure.
  • Visibility is more useful than optimization when control is unstable.
  • Crisis actions should require as little fresh judgment as possible.
  • The hardest cognitive act belongs before the point at which attention, memory, or judgment will be weakest.
  • Adaptation is not repair. Coordination is not taming.

What holds

  • Kraken and cascade language governs the current edition. Voltage-map terminology is retired.
  • The system uses three operational conditions, with Creative Opening held apart.
  • There is no universal cascade and no universal set of tripwires.
  • The pocket book contains an operating system, not a workbook.
  • Bathys is a personal capacity library. Claims of general efficacy remain held until evidence exists.

What remains

  • Test which tripwires identify a person’s first meaningful loss.
  • Learn what reliably captures a given tentacle and what closes a Creative Opening.
  • Determine how small or large the interface should be for different lives.
  • Test external usefulness without converting one person’s cascade into a default.

Re-entry

Bathys feeds the wider practice through capacity-aware placement, environmental supports, and safeguards designed to survive imperfect vigilance. It should be cited when those mechanisms materially shape another project, not attached to unrelated work as a brand label.
