Novella · Haven prequel

Every morning, Carl’s implant tells him when to wake, wash, eat, work, smile, and sleep.
It keeps him healthy, productive, and free from the burden of having to decide what comes next.
Then Carl witnesses a murder on his commuter train. The killer wears a red tie. Carl reports what he saw, and the system begins doing what it was built to do: turning an event it cannot understand into something it can manage.
